In Burundi, food insecurity remains a major challenge, driven by poor agriculture practices, rapid population growth, conflicts and recurring climate shocks such as floods, droughts, hailstorms, and heavy rains. These factors continue to reduce agricultural productivity and weaken household resilience.
To address these challenges, Help Channel Burundi is implementing targeted initiatives aimed at strengthening food security and building community resilience, notably through:
Agricultural Production
– We promote improved agricultural production by supporting farmers with best agronomic practices, including soil conservation techniques and access to improved agricultural inputs. This helps households increase productivity and build more stable food systems.
Post-Harvest Management
– We strengthen post-harvest food conservation by training communities in proper handling techniques and introducing appropriate storage technologies. This reduces food losses and ensures better use of harvested crops.
Nutrition and Food Utilization
– We improve food consumption practices by educating communities on the importance of balanced diets and nutritious food choices. This empowers families to make healthier decisions that support long-term well-being.
Our interventions primarily target the most vulnerable households, including women-headed families, single-parent households, elderly persons living alone, and agricultural households with limited or no land. These groups are often the most exposed to food insecurity and remain at the center of our efforts.
