Burundi’s economy depends largely on agriculture, yet the country faces growing environmental pressures. High population density, land scarcity, deforestation, and poor soil and water management have led to soil erosion, declining soil fertility, and the degradation of natural ecosystems. These challenges contribute directly to food insecurity and deepen poverty in rural communities that rely on the land for their livelihoods.
Help Channel Burundi works with communities to promote practical and sustainable environmental solutions. Our initiatives focus on reforestation, erosion control, and the rehabilitation of rural roads. Through tree planting, the establishment of contour lines, and improved land management practices, we help restore soil fertility, protect water resources, and reduce the impact of erosion on agricultural land.
By restoring the health of the land, our work strengthens agricultural productivity and supports more stable livelihoods for rural families. At the same time, improved rural infrastructure helps communities access markets and services more easily. Through these efforts, we contribute to environmental restoration while supporting long-term economic resilience and sustainable development.
